Civil Air Patrol Base, Bar Harbor, Maine
I found a pretty cool Library of Congress photoset of 1940s airplanes taking off and landing at the CAP Base in Bar Harbor. I wanted to share one of my favorites from the set. According to the CAP website, there is no longer a squadron based in Bar Harbor, so this is a fun look back in time.

hello,
It might interest you to know, that in fact there is still a base at Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor was the home 20th patrol squadron during WWII it was one of two sub-chasing squadrons in the state of Maine. Nowadays, what’s left of it is called the 38th patrol squadron, and to this day we are still performing missions for America.
ME-038…I’m glad to hear there’s still a squadron up in Bar Harbor. You might want to contact the CAP web master and let him or her know that.

Yeah, the reason National doesn’t list a squadron in Bar Harbor is because it’s actually in Trenton, ME at the Bar Harbor Airport. But it’s still called the Bar Harbor squadron to this day!
