Welcome to Winter
So winter has officially arrived in Maine, right on time. We got a warm-up Friday night with ~7″ of snow, and it’s been snowing for the last six hours now, with no end in sight. They’re calling for a total of nearly a foot and a half from this storm, which happens to fall on the first official day of winter, bringing the total on the ground to over two feet. I guess a white Christmas is a pretty sure bet now…
Update: Snowfall total was 15″, bringing the weekend total to just under two feet. Drifting, thanks to 30 mph gusts, left piles up to my waist in some spots. Oh, and we suffered a cracked pipe in the basement, so we’ve got a plumber hanging out today. I love winter!
Jason and Amber,
We were in Portland over the weekend and exited just as the Noreaster was on its way yesterday. Hit the first wave in So. Maine and then in MA. It finally stopped by the time we hit a rest stop just north of New Haven. It was quite a trip home. The Subaru was built for these types of storms. Many cars were not so lucky and spinouts were everywhere.
By the way, had a baguette from Borealis and it was excellent – easily the equivalent of anything in NYC, if not tastier.
Sorry to hear about your pipe crack. The joys of winter never cease.
All the best. Merry Christmas and have a happy holiday season.
hello from MO!
Hope you don’t mind a lurker, found you by accident through a google search. My daughter moved there this fall from our home in Harrisonville Missouri. Reading your blog gives me a little more insight in to her winter in Maine!
