About New2Maine.com

Published by Jason

New2Maine.com is the story of a couple in their late twenties who’ve decided to pack up their belongings and leave two safe, comfortable careers in upstate New York behind because they’ve fallen in love with Maine’s southern coast. He works in computers and is tele-commuting from their Portland apartment. She teaches French.

Our goal is to create a site sharing personal experiences and anecdotes on moving to Maine, information on travel and vacation in our new home state, and tips and tricks on how you can follow us here. We’ve only just discovered Maine in the summer of 2006, so there’s plenty to explore. We’d love for you to come along for the ride.

What’s with the He and She stuff in many of the posts?

When we started this blog, we wanted to be mostly anonymous. We also thought it might help you to put yourself in our shoes if we didn’t use our own names. Since then, Jason has concluded that it’s not really working out that way, that it makes the writing sound pretty awkward at times (and Jason’s writing is already awkward enough without the forced use of proper pronouns), and that most of the people reading the blog already know us by name anyway. Therefore, anywhere you see He or Him, simply substitute “Jason,” and anywhere you see She or Her, “Amber.”
